Chronicles over 40 years of Chelmsford history as told through the parson's eyes. It begins on June 1, 1749, several years after Rev. Bridge was ordained at the Chelmsford church on May 20, 1741 and ends August 19, 1792 less than two months before his death. Within his 1200 pages– transcribed, edited and annotated–Ebenezer records baptisms, deaths and funerals he attended, and marriages he performed. Other entries refer to weather conditions, epidemics of smallpox and throat distemper, bad storms, religious disputes, earthquakes, military expeditions fires and rare eclipses.

After his death in 1892, Charles Warren Spalding began the revision which took three years to complete.
