Nights at the Round Table,
by George Adams Parkhurst

This final book, written by George Adams Parkhurst, is about a fictitious group that meets on Monday nights at the Radisson Hotel to discuss local history – the history of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The "history buffs" in attendance include persons from the community, such as: The Doctor, The Historian, The Curator, The Professor, The Librarian, and The Innkeeper of the hotel in which they meet. In turn, each member of the Round Table discussion presents a biographical sketch about some person who has touched the lives of the Chelmsford community in some outstanding way, politically, economically or intellectually. Although the members of the group are fictitious, the biographical sketches are not. Some of the 20 individuals presented by members of the Round Table may be well known to the reader for their contributions. Others, while they may not be so well known, deserve a special recognition in Chelmsford's history. Characters include a witch, a scientist, a balloonist, a minister, a sword manufacturer, a violin virtuoso, a playwright, a surgeon, a writer, a matchmaker, and an actress. Can you guess who is who? Albert Spalding, Martha Sparks, Christopher Roby, Mark Reed, David Henry Thoreau, Virginia and Mark Reed, Willard Parker, and Wilkes Allen are but a few. Not only will these sketches appeal to those interested in the local community, but anyone who appreciates early American history.
